Intro

So exactly who is Sissy Marlyn?  We know you are dying to know.  Naturally, I'm going to tell you!  Sissy Marlyn is the pen name for Mary C. Drechsel

How did she come up with the name Sissy Marlyn?  My, you sure are curious, but Sissy loves it!  Marlyn is just a combination of two names. Sissy wrote her first two and a half novels with her best friend Lynn, so Mar & Lyn.  As to the Sissy, that comes from Lynn nicknaming Mary – ‘her little sissy’.  Lynn always wished for a sister (but only had a brother), so Mary became her surrogate sister.

Now sit back and relax and let us tell you a little bit about Mary and Lynn.

Mary

Mary was a very imaginative child and always loved to spin stories.  Her parents thought Mary was a well-behaved child, because she would sit so quietly in church.  Little did they know that sweet, innocent Mary was making up stories (some of them rather wild) about all of their fellow parishioners.

Mary officially began to write when she was eight years old.  She discovered an old, manual Royal typewriter in the basement and taught herself to type on it (with the help of her older brother and sister’s typing manual).  After this, it was story, story, story!  There was no stopping her!

Mary eventually graduated up to a Brother word processor.  It was on this gadget that Mary attempted to write her first novel.  Her nephew finally convinced her to buy a computer.

Mary’s parents, however, were not supportive of her writing talent.  So Mary entered the business world and took a ‘job’ at a large banking institution.  She stayed at this job for years.  However, Mary’s heart still belonged to writing.  In her free time, she would still create many wonderful stories.

Lynn

Satisfied with Mary?  Okay, we’ll move right along to Lynn:

Lynn began writing when she was nine years old.  She would make up stories about her mother, who was crippled with rheumatoid arthritis.  In Lynn’s inspired stories, her mother was not crippled at all.  In fact, she could accomplish all kinds of fascinating feats. She could do wonderful things with Lynn and her little brother. Can we say Wonder Woman??

Lynn’s writing giftedness completely manifested itself when she was in high school.  As a project in her junior year, Lynn set out to write a screenplay.  This screenplay ended up being critiqued by a group at Universal Studios, in California where Lynn went to school.  To her surprise, Universal Studios ended up selecting her screenplay out of several that had been submitted.  She and some of her classmates were invited to perform a ten-minute skit of her screenplay at the studio.

Impressively, Lynn was given an Emmy from Universal Studios.  The studio also highly recommended to her mother that Lynn continue to pursue a career in writing screenplays.  Lynn, like Mary, was not supported by her mother to continue along this path.

So Lynn pursued many other careers.  She was an airline flight attendant for several years.  She worked at a couple of banks in town.  Marriage and children followed, and Lynn’s writing was all but forgotten.

Sissy Marlyn

So how did Sissy Marlyn come to be?  Drum roll please!!!!!

The day we first received Intimacies!

First "Official" Intimacies booksigning at Barnes & Noble. What a great store!

Mary and Lynn met when Lynn came to work at the same, large (boring) banking institution, where Mary was employed.  Mary had already worked (slaved) at this bank for years.  Mary mentioned to Lynn that she was working on a novel (not these specific novels).  Lynn shared with Mary that she had always loved to write as well.  The ladies struck up an easy friendship.

Their writing collaboration for Intimacies began as a whim; when this wealthy and very attractive man swept one of their fellow employees off her feet.  Mary started it by sending Lynn a short email note, making up a story of how this world wind romance would end.  Lynn, just for fun, added to this email.  This scenario continued for several days until they began to edit the story.  This led to them working on it during their bus rides to and from the city to their jobs at this large banking institution.  They continued taking turns writing bits and pieces of the story each day.  They would also read (and critique) one another’s work during these bus rides.

Then one day Mary pointed out to Lynn, “Do you realize that we actually have a novel here?”  Lynn kind of ‘pooh poohed’ this notion at first.  But Mary would not give up on the idea.

She set to the formidable task of editing and splicing together all of the sections of their novel.  Mary also had a little outside help from one of her sisters.  She read the novel during a Florida vacation and helped do some final editing.  Intimacies was soon born!!

Romance is in their blood.  Lynn was recently asked to be the Matron of Honor at Mary’s wedding.  An honor she earned by bringing her dear friend, Mary, together with her husband, Gary.  Without Mary’s knowledge, Lynn had created a profile for her on a dating service, thus a wonderful connection was made and a never-ending love has developed.

Without a doubt, these two women are true romantics, and this certainly comes through in their writing.  Shortly after publishing Intimacies, these ladies decided to continue sharing the magic contained in this novel.  Therefore, they have set out to write a trilogy.  Illusions, came next. By the time Indecisions was being written, Lynn's two boys had become teenagers and having her hands full with her children, Lynn stopped writing with Mary after only a few chapters of this third, and final, novel in their "I" Series. Mary, now known as Sissy Marlyn, continued to write and has now produced five other, much sought after novels. Go Sissy Go!
