Continue reading »]]> The Shoppes at Otter Creek is about to open and I am proud to announce that all of my novels will be available for purchase there.  The store is located on Hwy 1638, just off of Dixie Hwy (or 31W), and just a short drive from the entrance to Otter Creek.  For those of you that are old enough, this charming store is located in what used to be the old Dollhouse.  Shoppes at Otter Creek should be open for business by next Monday, Nov. 7.  I will be on hand some of the day on Tuesday, Nov. 8.  So if you live in this area, come check out the new shop and if I am there, I will be happy to personally autograph one of my novels for you or a friend.

Continue reading »]]> Those of you that were familiar with my old website might have already had the pleasure of reading the short stories I had posted there.

Below is one of the stories that used to be posted.  A little romance for my readers for the month of June.  This is based on a real couple that Gary and I met while vacationing in California.

Now on with the story:

It was the first time Cristi Nalla and her husband Christopher had ever been to San Francisco. Being the early raisers they were, they had gotten up at 8:00 a.m., dressed in casual shorts and T-shirts and went down to the hotel restaurant to eat.  They lingered there for over an hour eating slowly and enjoying each other’s company.  Since it was such a beautiful day, they decided that the first thing on their agenda was to take a leisurely stroll across the Golden Gate Bridge.

As Christopher parked the car, Cristi could not help but notice how the brilliant rays of sunshine and a pristine, bright blue sky made the vivid orange of the magnificent Golden Gate Bridge seem to glow.  They were both so in awe over this wonderful city they had not realized the breeze coming off the bay would be a slight bit cool.  But as they walked farther onto the bridge, the welcoming rays of sun warmed them just enough to be comfortable. 

About midway across, they stopped to take pictures and videotape. While Cristi and Christopher were preoccupied with their cameras, they did not notice the older couple that had come to stand beside them right away.  Cristi was the first to see them.  She noted the man was tall and of average weight, with thick gray hair.  He wore an oxford cloth shirt, sports jacket and dress pants.  The woman was just a bit shorter than the man and a little heavier, but still very attractive.  Her short, shiny, blond hair was being whipped around her face by the constant breeze.  She had on a blouse, sweater vest and slacks.  They both seemed somewhat dressed up for an early morning stroll across the bridge.  

The man and woman looked out at the glistening water of the bay, pointing to Alcatraz and downtown San Francisco.  They seemed to be delighted by the glorious sights, just as Cristi and Christopher were.  Standing so close by, Cristi overheard some of their enthusiastic conversation and noted their British accent. 

“Excuse me, might I ask where are you visiting from?”  She dared to strike up a conversation with these strangers.            

“We are from England, just outside of Dover.  We are on vacation.  Taking a bus tour from British Columbia to San Francisco.  We are very much enjoying visiting your wonderful United States.  Are you visiting here as well?” the woman answered.

“Yes, we are.  As a matter of fact we’re vacationing too,” Cristi answered with a friendly smile.  She added, “My name is Cristi and this is my husband Christopher.” Christopher extended his hand to the older man and nodded politely to the woman, as Cristi continued, “We’re from Kentucky.  Have you heard of it?”

“Of course!  The home of the Kentucky Derby,” the woman said with enthusiasm.  “We have race horses in England too, you know.”

Then the man spoke with his heavy accent, “Please forgive my manners, I am Ian, and this is my darling wife Lenore.”  Ian reached out his hand again to shake Christopher’s and smiled politely at Cristi.

 “I haven’t been to England, but Christopher has,” Cristi told them, not losing stride amongst the introductions.   

“Yes,” Christopher chipped in.  “I thought it was beautiful there.  I enjoyed my time in your country as well.”     

Lenore studied the young woman and man across from her.  They looked to be in their mid to late thirties.  The woman had shoulder length blond hair, which she had pulled back into a ponytail.  She had pretty golden brown eyes.  The man had curly blond hair and brilliant blue eyes.  He looked as if he should be surfing on one of California’s beaches.  His clothes even painted this picture.  He had on a vibrant blue Hawaiian T-shirt and faded blue jean shorts.  The woman had on a pretty red T-shirt and white Bermuda shorts. 

“If you enjoyed being in England, then you should go back again and take your lovely wife.”  Lenore shared her thoughts.  “We’re certainly enjoying our travels, although we have waited for retirement to do so.  You’re both so young.  You should go while you still are, if you get the chance.”

“We’re not all that young,” Cristi revealed.  “I’ll be forty this year.  And this cradle robber here…” she said, affectionately squeezing Christopher’s arm.  “He’ll be forty-seven.  We just barely squeezed in this trip.  What with work and doctor’s appointments…”

“We’re trying to have a baby,” Christopher chipped in.  “We’ve been trying for over two years, since we first got married.  But no luck so far.  Now the doctors are practically planning our life.  We took this vacation to take a break from their interference for a short while.  Perhaps we should have gone to England instead.  That might have done the trick…” he suggested and gave Cristi a suggestive wink.

“Well, one thing is for certain,” Lenore said.  She gave a wicked little chuckle and added, “It sure is fun to practice, isn’t it?”

Christopher laughed at this older woman’s forthrightness.  “That it is.  At least when you aren’t told when to do it or what position you have to do it in.”

“Christopher!” Cristi reprimanded.  Her face colored a little with embarrassment, as she gave his arm a light slap.

“Oh, it’s okay, dear.  Ian and I have four children,” Lenore reassured her.  “We don’t have virgin ears or anything else virgin for that matter,” she teased.

Cristi laughed so hard it almost hurt her stomach.  “You folks are a lot of fun,” she told Lenore.  “I’m glad we ran into you.  And I’m glad you’re enjoying visiting the States.  Christopher and I will have to plan a visit to England sometime soon.”

“Better make it soon.  I’m sure with the love I see between the two of you that your practicing will be successful soon,” Lenore assured her.

Cristi looked into this older woman’s kind eyes, and she could almost believe that what she said was true.  She was glad that they had run into this refreshing, funny, British couple.

“Well, Ian and I are going to walk the rest of the bridge,” Lenore said.  “It was nice meeting the two of you and chatting.  We wish you the best of luck with conceiving a child.  And lots of fun practicing.”

“Thanks,” Cristi said with another chuckle.  “You guys have safe travel, and enjoy the rest of your vacation.”

“We shall,” Lenore replied, and Ian gave them a smile.

Cristi watched the older couple start away.  She turned and gave Christopher a gleeful smile.  “They were fun,” she said.

“Yeah.  And so will the practicing be,” he said and scooped her into a warm embrace.

Cristi put her arms securely around Christopher’s neck and gave him a passionate kiss.

Lenore was looking back and watching them.  “They are such a delightful American couple, aren’t they, Ian?”

“Yes, dear,” he said.  “They remind me of us when we were young and fancy free.”

“Yes, they do,” she agreed.  She pulled back on her husband’s arm to bring him to a brief halt.  Then she put her arms around him and gave him a kiss.

“My, Lenore,” Ian said.  “Seems as if your discussion with the youngsters made you eager to ‘practice’ once more as well.”

“It did,” she concurred, giving him a playful smile.

“Well, let’s hurry up and walk this old bridge then,” he said with a sparkle in his eye.

Lenore glanced back at the younger couple once more.  “Yes, let’s,” she said and tugged on Ian’s arm to urge him forward once more.  She was happy to be in the United States and happy to have met the young couple who were so in love.  She was also content to have been married to Ian for so many years.  He was the love of her life, then, now and always.

Author Kevin Gibson's Book Launch Party

Kevin Gibson spun out his first novel The Liberation of Crystal Hill and my husband Gary and I were on hand to help him celebrate at Buffalo Wild Wings in the Highlands (the artsy fartsy area in Louisville, KY).  We both had a great time and enjoyed relaxing, laughing, and celebrating with Kevin and friends.

Saturday, Sunday and Monday was a mixture of working in the heat (Guess that’s what I get.  I prayed for no rain.  Guess you can’t have everything) and writing for you folks.  Bearhead Publishing is about to do a second printing on Illusions, the sequel to my very first novel Intimacies.  So I am doing some revisions, and something fans of the “I Series” will love.  I am adding new scenes to the book.  Street Rods, the first of August, I will have the new version of both Intimacies and Illusions.   I also hope to have a new Women’s Fiction novel available, Duplicity, and maybe even the sequel to USS Specter, USS Clairvoyant, so needless to say, I’m writing like mad. 

I was also sweating like mad as I put up cultured stone on the outside rim board of our new home in Brandenburg this past weekend.  But it looks great and my writing loft gets closer and closer.

Continue reading »]]> Thank you to all the wonderful people that visited with me and some of my Bearhead Publishing co-authors at the Howard Steamboat Chautauqua this past Saturday and Sunday.  The weather was almost perfect.  It did rain Saturday (well…actually it poured) but this did not happen until after the festival had ended for that day.

I appreciate all that bought books, from both myself and my co-authors.  Two of the authors in the booth with me this weekend were debuting their first novels, and it was great to see the support for them.  A fantastic crowd  patronizes the Chautauqua.  I am always happy and proud to signing book there.
